The Rules:

2) In the search box, type your birth month and day but not the year.

Exactly. Five months from now…

I WILL BE AT MY 18TH YEAR EXISTENCE.

i’ll be old! huhu. i don’t know why i’m afraid to be at this age.

cguro kasi, may mga bagay lang akong kinatatakutan pag tungtong ko ng 18.

hmm.. dahil sa debut? i’m not that sure. My brother is leaving for an inspection in Bangkok in September, my parents’ budget would not be enough for my party and for kuya’s trip to Bangkok. we really need a lot of money to prepare since it’s only months from now.

Mommy, on the other hand, is excited for my debut. She really wants to throw me a party on my 18th. sabi niya kasi, since i am their only girl, i MUST, SHALL have a party. Mommy is into it kasi she didn’t had a party when she turned 18. She really really loves parties and that best explains my mom is a socialite and a party animal. hahaha.

On a small gathering…

Neanderthal: Uy, college na pala anak mo? Saan and anong course? Nursing ang kinuha niya no?
Homo Sapien: Hindi nursing kinuha ng anak ko. Psychology, sa UP.
Neanderthal: Wow UP.
Homo Sapien: Wala namang masama doon ah.

The moment I learned this conversation from a credible person, I was really disappointed with that Neanderthal. I got thwarted by her statements not because of the alternate profession the moment I’ll graduate, but because of the word “lang”. Lang is but a single word with a deep meaning that can sometimes entrench into one’s feelings and emotions.

Admittedly, I don’t want to be a teacher. It’s not like the profession itself, but it lies on the talent. Being a teacher is NOT an easy task. One must have perseverance, patience and self control. Often times, I don’t possess at least one of these positive attitudes. Sometimes, I’m not patient. Sometimes I can’t control my mood which may inflict certain clashes in the environment. Though I have perseverance and determination, still it would not help to enter that kind of profession. Also, I don’t have the talent and passion of teaching. In that way, there’s no way that I could be a good teacher. That’s why I opt to be a doctor or a research scientist or a lawyer rather than to be a teacher.

Whenever I could see a great teacher, that is, her teaching strategies are very effective plus I can learn a lot of things from her lectures, I would be amazed by her talent and skills. Sometimes, I thought of being a teacher when I graduate but a minute or two later, I realized that I can’t be that great. Siigh.

Another thing to wage about is this Nursing matter. Since the dawn of the new millennium, a lot of high school graduates have been enrolling through different Nursing schools. The trend went exponentially higher compared to the the last eight years. A lot of people thought that when one took Nursing, one will get rich once he’s working abroad.

Reality check:

Don’t you think all of the nursing students really love their course? I do know a few people that they’re just following the latest trend but deep inside, they really loathed their course (nursing) for a certain reason. Sometimes they just followed on what their parents have suggested when they’re still in high school.

Don’t you think that the expenditures are all relatively the same when you work in abroad and in our own country? We know a lot of people are amazed with the burgeoning future of a nurse who works abroad. They are more encouraged to work in a foreign country most especially if the value of dollar is high. Let’s do simple math shall we? First a nurse who works on abroad earns at least Php 140,000 per month (assuming that he works for at least three years). That’s very high compared to a nurse who works here in the country. But if you calculate all of the expenses, like food, rent (shelter), electricity, water, personal expenses, “padala-for-relatives” and etc. it will only mean the same thing! It will solely depend to the bread winner’s frugality and thoughtfulness.

Don’t get me wrong. I’m not against to those people who took nursing as their course in college. It’s just like there are some people who can’t comprehend the real meaning of success. People perceive success as a person with lots and lots of properties and money. Some may see a rich business tycoon to be successful. But don’t you think he’s happy on to it?

But it’s still nice to know that there are some people took Nursing because of the reason that they love it. They have the real passion and determination to become a successful nurse. No heartaches and no hard feelings. As long as the ardor’s there, that would not be a problem. Now that’s the real attitude of a nurse.

“Man can never be satisfied with the things around him”, that’s what I’ve learned during one of my Economics lectures back in high school. Okay, that’s human nature, I guess. But being successful or success, in my own POV means that you’re happy on what you’ve accomplished on to your life. If you’re happy to live in a simple live in a simple life, then you’re successful. If you’re happy to be charitable, like what Mother Teresa did in Calcutta, India, then you’re successful. If you’re happy to teach students, then you ARE successful.

Being successful is not hard to attain, as long as there’s happiness.

Earth to Neanderthal, EARTH TO NEANDERTHAL! Forgive me for that insolent name. But please, do not underestimate teachers. Also, you don’t need to take nursing to become rich and successful. IMHO, such a shallow mentality. Forgive me. I just want to express my insights.

Thanks to the “lang” word, FCOL.

I take this as a challenge. I’ll prove them WRONG!

disclaimer: READ EVERYTHING. Skipping is not allowed.

How come, you act like this
Like you just don’t care at all

Naiinis ako .. kasi hindi niya napapansin na nagta2mpo ako sa kanya. It makes me angry. i think he’s taking it as my joke. i’m hurting kc balewala. ganito pla pag may pain sa dibdib o nahu2rt..

have you felt the feeling of being locked inside an elevator for an hour and the only air you could inhale is your exhaled CO2 ?

ganun. parang i can’t breathe. i can’t take the air that i’m supposedly breathing.. (naks emo. hahaha, yuck camille, hindi bagay..hehe) pero honestly, hindi talaga ako makahinga. (arrrgh. ayoko ng ganito.. lalong hindi ako nagiging ok.)

sometimes i think i’m only taken for granted…

i really don’t want to elaborate why i have come up with this thought. wag kang mapilit. please lang. utang na loob. hehe. pero SOMETIMES is just SOMETIMES. hanggang dun lang.

pag dumadating ako sa ganitong state of mind, iniisip ko nlang na mali ako. hindi ganun, kc may valid reasons naman ung tao; tao din lang naman cya, hindi sya perfect. at higit sa lahat, i should not expect for something in return. basta magmamahal ako kahit na sumobra pa sa pagmamahal niya para sa akin.

Hey, listen to what we’re not saying
Let’s play, a different game than what we’re playing
Try, to look at me and really see my heart

i am not really vocal with my feelings because i don’t want this be the reason of a BIG FIGHT that may lead to a break-up. HINDI AKO NAGSASABI tpos ako pa ung may ganang magtampo. mali din naman un. cyempre hindi naman cya manghuhula. at LALAKI cya. we’re differently trained in social aspect. this is reality, and we’re both facing it. sana hindi nya iniisip na laging joke lang o kung hindi nga, sana gumawa naman siya ng way para hindi na ako nakakaramdam ng ganito. ALL I NEED IS SINCERITY. sabi nga ni FPJ, napupuno din ang salop. hehe.

It’s not supposed to feel this way
I need you, I need you
More and more each day

Tao lang ako. may puso at nasasaktan din (another one, haha).. i really don’t understand myself why i’m feeling this. i’m in the point of thinking of some action. pero ayoko naman nung naisip ko. masasaktan lang ako lalo. erase erase erase! i love him. and i mean it.

what i’m thinking now is. . .

isa lang itong emotional challenge para sa akin and i also consider this as a test of my love for him. na-realize ko lang na mahal na mahal ko lang talaga siya kaya siguro i’m hurting this way. Para hindi na ako mag-icp ng kung ano pa man, i’m thinking of our moments together and sweet little things he did for me (naalala ko na naman ung 1st anniversary namin.. kinikilig ako. hehe. ).

Baka siya din may tampo and he opts not to tell me. same reason as mine.

ito nalang ung pinang hahawakan kong batayan para hindi ko na masyado isipin ung tampo ko sa kanya. Alam ko sa sarili ko na may mga bagay din naman akong nagawa na ikatatampo niya pero hindi lang niya sinasabi.

basta ang alam ko, kahit na my tampo ako, i got the feeling of needing him more and more and make our relationship stronger. Que sera sera.

HE is my ETHEREALITY.

he’s my heaven in reality.

lakas ng loob ko mag blogpost dito. kasi alam kong hindi naman niya ito titingnan. he prefer reading other blogs. hehe. so pag nabasa niya, OH MY VEGETABLES. haha

too much for being vocal. i need my sleep na.

The anxiety that I’ve been experiencing for the past few days had caused two unusual and painful zits in my ASS. Darn.

Btw, It’s not that i meant i had “dalawang tigyawat/pigsa sa pwet.” It’s just an allegory to express my stress.

This is my second blog post for the day, and yes I’m a bummer. Whatever!

But hey, before we end the summer season, let’s have a quick review about my summer vacation. I just want to share some insights about it, okay? Haha.

(NATAPOS ko ang DINER DASH sa PSP namin! )

Wow. This is an accomplishment for me! Diner Dash is the first PSP Game that i have finished! I’m so proud that i have unlocked levels by myself ONLY. No cheats, just my strategy. hahaha. It was really fun and quite gave me adrenalin rush whenever customers get angry or babies cry, spill some water or pee on the floor!

And because i have already finished this drooling game, nag decide na akong i-delete ito sa PSP namin. I replaced it with a new one — CALL of DUTY. Naaliw ako sa game ito. I like gun games. Counter Strike-like game ito.

I can say, I am really not good at computer games. If I would be graded (UP grading), i’ll probably get a 2.75 grade for it. Kasi 10 lang na-expert score ko sa Diner Dash at Silver lang ang medals ko sa COD. Puro bronze at NO AWARD eh.

I have made my own HAVAIANAS! Nakipagsiksikan sa mga sosyal, pumila for 5 hours and nakipag rubbing elbows kay Maja Salvador. But i really had fun.

I have learned how to manipulate images in Adobe Photoshop. I have learned how to play with the CSS (cascading style sheet) Codes, essential on creating cool layouts in Friendster, and Multiply. I have customized my phone theme! I’m glad that somehow, some people appreciated my works, and this motivates me to create more and more cool edits. I search for tutorials so i could compile it and give it to someone for our monthlies. that’s supposed to be a secret. I know he won’t be reading this naman. hehe. This made me and my kuya melo bond every night until 4 in the morning.

I have learned how to deal with online business. I’m desperate of getting some money. Nahihiya talaga akong humingi ng pera sa parents ko, most especially if it only answers my caprices, not on useful things like electric and water bill, food and of course, the internet bill. I’m thinking to enter this i’ll-pimp-your-photos-and-make-it-your-friendster-layout business since I only have twenty five pesos in my wallet. The good thing is I already have clients. Actually, it’s an exciting and fun experience to deal with them. No, I’m not an Economics major to deal with the right supply and demand stuffs or a ComSci/IT major, the only possible person that can decipher those codes. It’s just my favorite past time. At least, I did something productive in my summer break, well, aside from sweeping those unwanted craps sa bahay ng mga aso ko, and cleaning the haus. Sana tuloy-tuloy na para hindi na ako magpapa-pasaload sa dadi ko. Aasa ako sa sarili kong creativity at imagination.

I attended a life changing seminar and after which, I was offered to handle a very heavy talk (it’s REPENTANCE, FORGIVENESS, FAITH and LOVE of GOD) for new YFC recruits. I met myself with the presence of the Holy Spirit and received its gifts. Thanks to my parents, It was such a wonderful blessing.

I got hooked on watching El Cuerpo, Ligaw na Bulaklak, and Hana Kimi during siesta time. I was so stoned in nothing-to-do-moments so got to watch them. hahaha. Naging crush ko tuloy si Wu Chun! hehe.. (kainis, hindi ko napanood ung last episode ng Hana kimi kasi nanood kami ng Caregiver. ) I also got to watch my favorite NBA team, LAKERS! (Kobe is my baby, F.Y.I.— )huwaa, finals na! may pustahan kami ni DAVID dito.

speaking of DAVID, So many david come up on screen– DIAZ, seems to be Manny’s opponent; COOK and ARCHULETA of AI7; and the one in Sharon’s Caregiver Movie (the guy who speaks cute UK accent). i got hooked on them especially to American Idol 7′s battle of the two davids. i am so COOKified! pero siyempre never a david could beat my original DAVID. Mas addict ako sa kanya. and he’s my one and only ano. haha.

even Cook’s singing this song for me, i look at him as my DAVID. haha. (Even if you don’t ask me, I’ll always be your baby. )

Since it’s fast approaching and i only have several months, i have already made a choice between PARTY or NECESSITY (PLEASURE talaga toh, actually). I have decided this early so my parents and I could prepare. What for and what’s the verdict? I don’t want to spill the beans or just let the cat out of the sack, It’s for you to find out.

SUMMER is OVER. This is it. Today’s the first day of June. Goodbye summer. Goodbye late night internet sessions. So long CS3, for I will only use you every weekends.

But no! This is still me. I can’t help it. I’m fond of doing superfluous things that sometimes may encumber my study habits. For example, if I have a Chemistry exam tomorrow, you’ll find me busy answering those problems and deciphering those impossible-to-understand chemical formulas as well as surfing the internet or texting. Talking about multitasking ehhhh? Hahaha! But no. I can only do that if and only if I mastered the lesson. Ikaw ba naman na ang study table mo eh katabi ang laptop mo, sino naman di matetempt niyan. But hey, I have self control. If I’m on the verge of failing a subject (that would be catastrophic), I would always remind myself that I should always prioritize important things first before those inconsequential quirks and caprices.

Okay. So the judgment day would be tomorrow. UGGGHH! The missing slide of that freakin’ Santan’s cross section keeps on haunting throughout the day. Uggghh. Can I replace that thing, without buying the WHOLE plant slides? God! It’s just a cross section of the Santan’s leaf. Santans are abundant in UP for crying out loud. Aba ewan. Bahala na!

So that’s it, BYE BYE SUNSHINE!

hello RAINS. HELLO SCHOOL! err.

P.S. JUNE 2 na bukas! sa wakas, makikita ko na ulit siya GOOD luck sa NBA match namin, sana manalo ako para sasayawan niya ako! Lakers Gonna WIN! let’s FIGHT! haha.

I have a Spanish blood but apparently I am very proud and fortunate na Pinoy ako. These are some cool facts about the different lifestyles and common attitudes of a Filipino.

100 BEST THINGS ABOUT BEING PINOY

1. Merienda. Where else is it normal to eat five times a day?
I eat six to seven times a day . In between meals nga eh. ))))

2. Sawsawan. Assorted sauces that guarantee freedom of choice, enough room for experimentation and maximum tolerance for diverse tastes. Favorites: toyo’t calamansi, suka at sili, patis.
Isn’t it nice to have a patis with sugar on it? HAHAHA.

3. Kuwan, ano. At a loss for words? Try these and marvel at how Pinoys understand exactly what you want.
Typically, this is the phrase/conversation of a emblematic Filipino: “Yung ano nga.. uhhhmm.. ano.. basta yun!.. ung ganun.. ano nga ano..”

4. Pinoy humor and irreverence. If you’re api and you know it, crack a joke. Nothing personal, really.
Juan loves to crack jokes, even if how deep is his problems in life.

5. Tingi. Thank goodness for small entrepreneurs. Where else can we buy cigarettes, soap, condiments and life’s essentials in small affordable amounts?
And it’s nice to think that each and every Filipinos in the country have this tinge of entrepreneurial heart.

6. Spirituality. Even before the Spaniards came, ethnic tribes had their own anitos, bathalas and assorted deities, pointing to a strong relationship with the Creator, who or whatever it may be.

7. Po, opo, mano po. Speech suffixes that define courtesy, deference, filial respect–a balm to the spirit in these aggressive times.
But sometimes, in some local dialects, they do not use po, opo but they speak with respect. I know, they or we can feel it.

8. Pasalubong. Our way of sharing the vicarious thrills and delights of a trip, and a wonderful excuse to shop without the customary guilt.
Inaanak alert. INAANAK ALERT! Magtago na kayo sa bunker!

9. Beaches! With 7,000 plus islands, we have miles and miles of shoreline piled high with fine white sand, lapped by warm waters, and nibbled by exotic tropical fish. From the stormy seas of Batanes to the emerald isles of Palawan–over here, life is truly a beach.

10. Bagoong. Darkly mysterious, this smelly fish or shrimp paste typifies the underlying theme of most ethnic foods: disgustingly unhygienic, unbearably stinky and simply irresistible.
I remember in the movie, Caregiver, wherein Jong Hilario’s character was given by a pasalubong from Sarah (Sharon Cuneta) in the hospital, one Briton commented on the stench of the pasalubong, which is a special Bagoong. It smells like morgue here! HAHAHAA!
11. Bayanihan. Yes, the internationally-renowned dance company, but also this habit of pitching in still common in small communities. Just have that cold beer and some pulutan ready for the troops.
TAGAY NA ‘PRE!

12. The Balikbayan box. Another way of sharing life’s bounty, no matter if it seems like we’re fleeing Pol Pot every time we head home from anywhere in the globe. The most wonderful part is that, more often than not, the contents are carted home to be distributed.
In that way, families and relatives back at home will think that their families abroad didn’t forget them.

13. Pilipino komiks. Not to mention “Hiwaga,” “Aliwan,” “Tagalog Classics,” “Liwayway” and”Bulaklak” magazines. Pulpy publications that gave us Darna, Facifica Falayfay, Lagalag, Kulafu, Kenkoy, Dyesebel, characters of a time both innocent and worldly.
And who doesn’t know the Sungcal Family of Pugad Baboy?

14. Folk songs. They come unbidden and spring, full blown, like a second language, at the slightest nudge from the too-loud stereo of a passing jeepney or tricycle.
And it’s tiring if we always dance this on to our school’s linggo ng wika back in high school and elementary. hahaha.

15. Fiesta. Eat, drink and be merry, for tomorrow is just another day, shrugs the poor man who, once a year, honors a patron saint with this sumptuous, no-holds-barred spread. It’s a Pinoy celebration at its pious and riotous best.
And boy, ‘di talaga mawawala si PARENG LECHON, kahit gipit sa budget. Okay lang mang-utang!

16. Aswang, manananggal, kapre. The whole underworld of Filipino lower mythology recalls our uniquely bizarre childhood, that is, before political correctness kicked in. Still, their rich adventures pepper our storytelling.
Well, this is more creative than Greek Mythology, in my own point of view (and scarier)! HAHAA!

17. Jeepneys. Colorful, fast, reckless, a vehicle of postwar Pinoy ingenuity, this Everyman’s communal cadillac makes for a cheap, interesting ride. If the driver’s a daredevil (as they usually are), hang on to your seat.
Just choose a young, rascal-looking driver, and fasten your seatbelt (as if naman meron). Pray and pray and pray the rosary ‘til you reach your final destination. HAHAHA.

18. Dinuguan. Blood stew, a bloodcurdling idea, until you try it with puto. Best when mined with jalape¤o peppers. Messy but delicious.

19. Santacruzan. More than just a beauty contest, this one has religious overtones, a tableau of St. Helena’s and Constantine’s search for the Cross that seamlessly blends piety, pageantry and ritual. Plus, it’s the perfect excuse to show off the prettiest ladies–and the most beautiful gowns.

20. Balut. Unhatched duck’s embryo, another unspeakable ethnic food to outsiders, but oh, to indulge in guilty pleasures! Sprinkle some salt and suck out that soup, with gusto.
And hey! They’re also victims of abortion. Awwww.

21. Pakidala. A personalized door-to-door remittance and delivery system for overseas Filipino workers who don’t trust the banking system, and who expect a family update from the courier, as well.

22. Choc-nut. Crumbly peanut chocolate bars that defined childhood ecstasy before M & M’s and Hershey’s.
Hoy! Masarap ang choknut, especially ang HANY. The sweetest and the cheapest drug!
23. Kamayan style. To eat with one’s hand and eschew spoon, fork and table manners–ah, heaven.
Ahhh, mas masarap kung kamayan style, right?

24. Chicharon. Pork, fish or chicken crackling. There is in the crunch a hint of the extravagant, the decadent and the pedestrian. Perfect with vinegar, sublime with beer.
A PERFECT Viand too!

25. Pinoy hospitality. Just about everyone gets a hearty “Kain tayo!” invitation to break bread with whoever has food to share, no matter how skimpy or austere it is.
In other countries, they just treat their visitors with tea. “Would like a cup of tea Mademoisselle?”
Dito sa Pilipinas, “Naku, gusto mo ban g sandwich spread, kanin, puto’t dinuguan? Okay lang ba kayo?”

26. Adobo, kare-kare, sinigang and other lutong bahay stuff. Home-cooked meals that have the stamp of approval from several generations, who swear by closely-guarded cooking secrets and family recipes.

27. Lola Basyang. The voice one heard spinning tales over the radio, before movies and television curtailed imagination and defined grown-up tastes.
And the name, Lola Basyang really freaks me. I dunno.

28. Pambahay. Home is where one can let it all hang out, where clothes do not make a man or woman but rather define their level of comfort.
Ahhhh. The best outfit. lalo na pag may butas.. waa.. presko!

29. Tricycle and trisikad, the poor Pinoy’s taxicab that delivers you at your doorstep for as little as PHPesos3.00, with a complimentary dusting of polluted air.
At dahil mahal na ang gasoline ngayon, 32 pesos na ang pamasahe sa tricycle!

30. Dirty ice cream. Very Pinoy flavors that make up for the risk: munggo, langka, ube, mais, keso, macapuno. Plus there’s the colorful cart that recalls jeepney art.
And take note, this is more delicious than the commercialized ice cream. Very pinoy.

31. Yayas. The trusted Filipino nanny who, ironically, has become a major Philippine export as overseas contract workers. A good one is almost like a surrogate parent–if you don’t mind the accent and the predilection for afternoon soap and movie stars.
and of course Inday, who got stoned with her wordy english? haha.

32. Sarsi. Pinoy rootbeer, the enduring taste of childhood. Our grandfathers had them with an egg beaten in.

33. Pinoy fruits. Atis, guyabano, chesa, mabolo, lanzones, durian, langka, makopa, dalanghita, siniguelas, suha, chico, papaya, singkamas–the possibilities!

34. Filipino celebrities. Movie stars, broadcasters, beauty queens, public officials, all-around controversial figures: Aurora Pijuan, Cardinal Sin, Carlos P. Romulo, Charito Solis, Cory Aquino, Emilio Aguinaldo, the Eraserheads, Fidel V. Ramos, Francis Magalona, Gloria Diaz, Manuel L. Quezon, Margie Moran, Melanie Marquez, Ninoy Aquino, Nora Aunor, Pitoy Moreno, Ramon Magsysay, Richard Gomez, San Lorenzo Ruiz, Sharon Cuneta, Gemma Cruz, Erap, Tiya Dely, Mel and Jay, Gary V.

35. World class Pinoys who put us on the global map: Lea Salonga, Paeng Nepomuceno, Eugene Torre, Luisito Espinosa, Lydia de Vega-Mercado, Jocelyn Enriquez, Elma Muros, Onyok Velasco, Efren “Bata” Reyes, Lilia Calderon-Clemente, Loida Nicolas-Lewis, Josie Natori, Manny Pacquiao, Liza Macuja- Elizalde

36. Pinoy tastes. A dietitian’s nightmare: too sweet, too salty, too fatty, as in burong talangka, itlog na maalat, crab fat (aligue), bokayo, kutchinta, sapin-sapin, halo-halo, pastilyas, palitaw, pulburon, longganisa, tuyo, ensaymada, ube haleya, sweetened macapuno and garbanzos. Remember, we’re the guys who put sugar (horrors) in our spaghetti sauce. Yum!
Yeah! Let’s bring all those diabetics in the country! For it’s gonna be the sweetest mass genocide in the world! Take note of the word, SWEETEST.

37. The sights. Banaue Rice Terraces, Boracay, Bohol’s Chocolate Hills, Corregidor Island, Fort Santiago, the Hundred Islands, the Las Pi?s Bamboo Organ, Rizal Park, Mt. Banahaw, Mayon Volcano, Taal Volcano. A land of contrasts and ever-changing landscapes.

38. Gayuma, agimat and anting-anting. Love potions and amulets. How the socially-disadvantaged Pinoy copes.

39. Barangay Ginebra, Jaworski, PBA, MBA and basketball. How the verticaly-challenged Pinoy compensates, via a national sports obsession that reduces fans to tears and fistfights.

40. People Power at EDSA. When everyone became a hero and changed Philippine history overnight.

41. San Miguel Beer and pulutan. “Isa pa nga!” and the Philippines’ most popular, world-renowned beer goes well with peanuts, corniks, tapa, chicharon, usa, barbecue, sisig, and all manner of spicy, crunchy and cholesterol-rich chasers.

42. Resiliency. We’ve survived 400 years of Spanish rule, the US bases, Marcos, the 1990 earthquake, lahar, lambada, Robin Padilla, Rosing, Milenyo, and Erap. We’ll survive Gloria Labandera.

43. Yoyo. Truly Filipino in origin, this hunting tool, weapon, toy and merchandising vehicle remains the best way to “walk the dog” and “rock the baby,” using just a piece of string.

44. Pinoy games: Pabitin, palosebo, basagan ng palayok. A few basic rules make individual cunning and persistence a premium, and guarantee a good time for all.

45. Ninoy Aquino. For saying that “the Filipino is worth dying for,” and proving it.
And he’s worthy! The yellow, smelly bill.

46. Balagtasan. The verbal joust that brings out rhyme, reason and passion on a public stage.
I wonder if they still do this thing today.

47. Tabo. All-powerful, ever-useful, hygienically-triumphant device to scoop water out of a bucket _ and help the true Pinoy answer nature’s call. Helps maintain our famously stringent toilet habits.
OH YEAH! Tabo is the one of the most important household tools in the country!

48. Pandesal. Despite its shrinking size, still a good buy. Goes well with any filling, best when hot. Masarap din kapag sinasawsaw sa MILO. Very pinoy!

49. Jollibee. Truly Pinoy in taste and sensibility, and a corporate icon that we can be quite proud of. Do you know that it’s invaded the Middle East, USA and China as well?

50. The butanding, the dolphins and other creatures in our blessed waters. They’re Pinoys, too, and they’re here to stay. Now if some folks would just stop turning them into daing.

51. Pakikisama. It’s what makes people stay longer at parties, have another drink, and join pals in sickness and health. You can get dead drunk and still make it home.

52. Sing-a-long. Filipinos love to sing, and thank God a lot of us do it well!
No wonder why do some Filipinos buy Magic Sing Microphones even if it’s quite expensive.

53. Kayumanggi. Neither pale nor dark, our skin tone is beautifully healthy, the color of a rich earth or a mahogany tree growing towards the sun.

54. Handwoven cloth and native weaves. Colorful, environment-friendly alternatives to polyester that feature skillful workmanship and a rich indigenous culture behind every thread. From the pinukpok of the north to the malong of the south, it’s the fiber of who we are.

55. Movies. Still the cheapest form of entertainment, especially if you watch the same movie several times.
Well, thanks to piracy though, the movie industry’s shrinking.

56. Bahala na. We cope with uncertainty by embracing it, and are thus enabled to play life by ear.

57. Papaitan. An offal stew flavored with bile, admittedly an acquired taste, but pointing to our national ability to acquire a taste for almost anything.

58. English. Whether carabao or Arr-neoww-accented, it doubles our chances in the global marketplace.
And our fluency in English is far better than to our Asian neighbors, agree?

59. The Press. Irresponsible, sensational, often inaccurate, but still the liveliest in Asia. Otherwise, we’d all be glued to TV.

60. Divisoria. Smelly, crowded, a pickpocket’s paradise, but you can get anything here, often at rock-bottom prices. The sensory overload is a bonus.

61. Barong Tagalog. Enables men to look formal and dignified without having to strangle themselves with a necktie. Worn well, it makes any ordinary Juan look marvelously makisig.

62. Filipinas. They make the best friends, lovers, wives. Too bad they can’t say the same for Filipinos.

63. Filipinos. So maybe they’re bolero and macho with an occasional streak of generic infidelity; they do know how to make a woman feel like one.

64. Catholicism. What fun would sin be without guilt? Jesus Christ is firmly planted on Philippine soil.

65. Dolphy. Our favorite, ultra-durable comedian gives the beleaguered Pinoy everyman an odd dignity, even in drag.

66. Style. Something we often prefer over substance. But every Filipino claims it as a birthright.

67. Bad taste. Clear plastic covers on the vinyl-upholstered sofa, posters of poker-playing dogs masquerading as art, over accessorized jeepneys and altars–the list is endless, and wealth only seems to magnify it.

68. Mangoes. Crisp and tart, or lusciously ripe, they evoke memories of family outings and endless sunshine in a heart-shaped package.

69. Unbridled optimism. Why we rank so low on the suicide scale.
At kahit nasusunugan na bahay nila, basta makakita ng camera ng media, todo smile pa rin!

70. Street food: Barbecue, lugaw, banana-cue, fishballs, IUD (chicken entrails), adidas (chicken feet), warm taho. Forget hepatitis; here’s cheap, tasty food with gritty ambience.

71. The siesta. Snoozing in the middle of the day is smart, not lazy.
We got this from the Spaniards, though.

72. Honorifics and courteous titles: Kuya, ate, diko, ditse, ineng, totoy, Ingkong, Aling, Mang, Manoy, Manay, etc. No exact English translation, but these words connote respect, deference and the value placed on kinship.

73. Heroes and people who stood up for truth and freedom. Lapu-lapu started it all, and other heroes and revolutionaries followed: Diego Silang, Macario Sakay, Jose Rizal, Andres Bonifacio, Apolinario Mabini, Melchora Aquino, Gregorio del Pilar, Gabriela Silang, Miguel Malvar, Francisco Balagtas, Juan Luna, Marcelo H. del Pilar, Panday Pira, Emilio Jacinto, Raha Suliman, Antonio Luna, Gomburza, Emilio Aguinaldo, the heroes of Bataan and Corregidor, Pepe Diokno, Satur Ocampo, Dean Armando Malay, Evelio Javier, Ninoy Aquino, Lola Rosa and other comfort women who spoke up, honest cabbie Emilio Advincula, Rona Mahilum, the women lawyers who didn’t let Jalosjos get away with rape.

74. Flora and fauna. The sea cow (dugong), butanding, tarsier, calamian deer, bearcat, Philippine eagle, sampaguita, ilang-ilang, camia, pandan, the creatures that make our archipelago unique.
The beauty of the country’s Biodiversity is truly remarkable.

75. Pilipino songs, OPM and composers: “Ama Namin,” “Lupang Hinirang,” “Gaano Ko Ikaw Kamahal,” “Ngayon at Kailanman,” “Anak,” “Handog,”"Hindi Kita Malilimutan,” “Ang Pasko ay Sumapit”; Ryan Cayabyab, George Canseco, Restie Umali, Levi Celerio, Manuel Francisco, Freddie Aguilar, and Florante–living examples of our musical gift.

76. Metro Aides. They started out as Imelda Marcos’ groupies, but have gallantly proven their worth. Against all odds, they continuously prove that cleanliness is next to godliness–especially now that those darned candidates’ posters have to be scraped off the face of Manila!

77. Sari-sari store. There’s one in every corner, offering everything from bananas and floor wax to Band-Aid and bakya.

78. Philippine National Red Cross. PAWS. Caritas. Fund drives. They help us help each other.

79. Favorite TV shows through the years: “Tawag ng Tanghalan,” “John and Marsha,” “Champoy,” “Ryan, Ryan Musikahan,” “Kuwarta o Kahon,” “Public Forum/Lives,” “Student Canteen,” “Eat Bulaga”, “Wowowee” In the age of inane variety shows, they have redeemed Philippine television.

80. Quirks of language that can drive crazy any tourist listening in: “Bababa ba?” “Bababa!”
WOOHOOO! I wonder what would be the reaction of the tourist if he hears this conversation. HAHAHAHA.

81. “Sayang!” “Naman!” “Kadiri!” “Ano ba!?” “Kamust namn un?!” “pala.” Expressions that defy translation but wring out feelings genuinely Pinoy.

82. Cockfighting. Filipino men love it more than their wives (sometimes).

83. Dr. Jose Rizal. A category in himself. Hero, medicine man, genius, athlete, sculptor, fictionist, poet, essayist, husband, lover, samaritan, martyr. Truly someone to emulate and be proud of, anytime, anywhere.

84. Nora Aunor. Short, dark and homely-looking, she redefined our rigid concept of how leading ladies should look. Look at our PRESIDENT! dba? haha.
Who could ever forget her lines “My brother is not a pig!” and “Walang Himala! tao lang ang gumagawa ng himala” with matching her hand gesture. hahaha.

85. Noranian, Sharonian or Vilmanian. Defines the friendly rivalry between Ate Guy Aunor and Ate Vi Santos and for many years, the only way to be for many Filipino fans. And hey! Don’t forget Ate Shawee too! the Sharon-Gabby fever.

86. Filipino Christmas. The world’s longest holiday season. A perfect excuse to mix our love for feasting, gift-giving and music and wrap it up with a touch of religion.
Philippines celebrates the longest Christmas season in the world!

87. Relatives and kababayan abroad. The best refuge against loneliness, discrimination and confusion in a foreign place. Distant relatives and fellow Pinoys readily roll out the welcome mat even on the basis of a phone introduction or referral.

88. Festivals: Sinulog, Kadayawan, Maskara, Ati-atihan, Moriones. Sounds, colors, pagan frenzy and Christian overtones.

89. Folk dances. Tinikling, pandanggo sa ilaw, kari?sa, kuratsa, itik-itik, alitaptap, rigodon. All the right moves and a distinct rhythm.

90. Native wear and costumes. Baro’t saya, tapis, terno, saya, salakot, bakya. Lovely form and ingenious function in the way we dress.
Nakakainis minsan kung makati ang tela. HAHAHA!

91. Sunday family gatherings. Or, close family ties that never get severed. You don’t have to win the lotto or be a president to have 10,000 relatives. Everyone’s family tree extends all over the archipelago, and it’s at its best in times of crisis; notice how food, hostesses, money, and moral support materialize during a wake?

92. Calesa and karitela. The colorful and leisurely way to negotiate narrow streets when loaded down with a year’s provisions.

93. Quality of life. Where else can an ordinary employee afford a stay-in helper, a yaya, unlimited movies, eat-all-you-can buffets, the latest fashion (Baclaran nga lang), even Viagra in the black market?

94. All Saints’ Day. In honoring our dead, we also prove that we know how to live.

95. Handicrafts. Shellcraft, rattancraft, abaca novelties, woodcarvings, banig placemats and bags, bamboo windchimes, etc. Portable memories of home. Hindi lang pang-turista, pang-balikbayan pa!

96. Pinoy greens. Sitaw. Okra. Ampalaya. Gabi. Munggo. Dahon ng Sili. Kangkong. Luya. Talong. Sigarillas. Bataw. Patani. Lutong bahay will never be the same without them.

97. OCWs. The lengths (and miles) we’d go for a better life for our family, as proven by these modern-day heroes of the economy.

98. The Filipino artist. From Luna’s magnificent “Spoliarium” and Amorsolo’s sun-kissed ricefields, to Ang Kiukok’s jarring abstractions and Borlongan’s haunting ghosts, and everybody else in between. Hang a Filipino painting on your wall, and you’re hanging one of Asia’s best.

99. Tagalog soap operas. From “Gulong ng Palad” and “Flor de Luna” to today’s incarnations like “Mula sa Puso”–they’re the story of our lives, and we feel strongly for them, MariMar notwithstanding.

100. Midnight madness, weekends sales, bangketas and baratillos. It’s retail therapy at its best, with Filipinos braving traffic, crowds, and human deluge to find a bargain
Midnight sale is really tiring but super sulit!

*                                         *                                                *                                                *                                           *

When my lolo died, I did not cry much probably because I was young then (and we didn’t have enough time to spend with him because he’s in Bicol). I was only 7, I think. Besides, he’s not the typical adorable lolo who pampers his grandchildren. My lolo was a notorious disciplinarian, of course, he is a PNP Chief. I got to the habit of talking in English (then, haha)because of him. He insisted on me and my brother eating alone at a certain age and not spoon-fed by the yaya. In retrospect, I don’t know if we (i and my kuyas, of course) were my lolo’s favorites. People would, of course, be inclined to say that his favorite is kuya bimbong (auntie nini’s eldest son) because he is the first male (first na, male pa) grandchild but I contest that in my mind (haha) because from the very few memories I have of my childhood, I felt that he adored me, especially in that picture. haha. My fondest memory is of him constantly looking for his arm band and he asked me if i have seen it. Unfortunately, i didn’t gave him any arm band he’s looking for.

In a way, I guess I miss my lolo. He’s a true blue disciplinarian but I always feel some safety when I remember him. It’s like feeling that no one else can hurt you because he will protect you. I am also proud of him because he is handsome (haha, that’s why we have good genes:P) and because he has never been the type to compromise his principles. He did not become a wealthy man because he did not want to be eaten up by the system. Instead, he spent his life being wealthy with friends and being honest to the people important to him.

10 years after your death, I look at our picture and I begin seeing it as if it’s the first time i see it. I look at it with different eyes and I finally understand what it is to miss someone who is a part of your life but someone you can never bring back.

Cheesy but…I miss you, wuwu. (I actually call him “wuwu”.)

Every second chance begins with a first step.

Everyone deserves a chance to follow their dreams, but some people only get one shot. Tyler Gage (Channing Tatum) is a rebel from the wrong side of Baltimore¹s tracks and the only thing that stands between him and an unfulfilled life are his dreams of one day making it out of there. Nora (Jenna Dewan) is a privileged ballet dancer attending Baltimore¹s ultra-elite Maryland School of the Arts — and the only thing standing in the way of her obviously brilliant future is finding a great dance partner for her senior showcase. When trouble with the law lands Tyler with a community service gig at Maryland School of the Arts, he arrives as an angry outsider, until his skills as a gifted street dancer draw Nora¹s attention. Now, as sparks fly between them, both on and off stage, Tyler realizes he has just one performance to prove that he can step up to a life far larger than he ever imagined.

—
i watched this last sunday after i have downloaded it from my μtorrent. initially, Step Up 2 ung gusto kong panoorin, but i had no idea about this first step up kaya hindi ko (cguro) maiintindihan ung 2nd kung hindi ko papanoorin ung first. And since i haven’t finish downloading the 2nd, i’d rather watch the first.. so basically, no expectations. Mom also watched it just to kill time and for the aircon. bwahahahaha! (we needed to watch a movie for momi to allow me switch on the aircon.)

the film was totally inspiring, set in a situation where all of us probably experienced at one point in our lives. the feeling of going nowhere, giving up, no hope. also, the situation where everything is just perfect, going well as planned .. then something just comes up and destroys everything. two vivid situations presented in the film that made it all the more interesting. it’s one movie where you really feel the characters, you see yourself in them. it’s not superfluous, nor over-acted. its something where you can learn from, or just remember some lessons that you’ve known way before – all about life. it reminds us that nothing is impossible, as long as your heart is with that one thing you’re dreaming of.

and .. it makes you want to learn to dance

the actors, geez. channing was hot. so was jenna. they were really good dancers that i cant help but envy. i was kinda pissed at first with the kind of friends that tyler had in his neighborhood .. i had to remind myself that it was all part of his character. LOL. hahahahaha!

awww.. i missed my dancing days!

go see it, it’s worth it .. feel good, and you really get entertained
